Because of the freedom it affords in the association of ideas, the unconscious should, according to Freud, be nurtured, but in a controlled way, as a source of inspiration: “The ego must learn to control the charging horse that is the ID, but he needs to be a good rider” (Bruner:140). Notice how Freud has recourse to poetic language (metaphors) here in order to express his theory, and as regards the unconscious itself, he believed that metaphor (q.v.) and poetry are effective as decoding devices, particularly in interpreting dreams. Also the anarchic nature of the unconscious, when combined with the symbolist and metaphorical nature of poetry, could be very effective in expressing certain taboo subjects (cf. Lorca’s oneiric symbolism, q.v.). And the so-called Freudian slip of the tongue is the ID of the unconscious trying to break through the rules and conventions of tolerated social behaviour: “the artificer” (unreason), as Bruner puts it (p.140), “driving a hard bargain in a transaction with the ego”. | Translation - French
Étant données les multiples associations d’idées dont il est capable, l’inconscient, d’après Freud, mérite d’être entretenu, de manière contrôlée, en tant que source d’inspiration : « L’ego, en bon cavalier, doit apprendre à maîtriser ce cheval impétueux qu’est le ça » (Bruner:140). On notera ici que Freud a recourt au langage poétique (métaphores) afin d’exposer sa théorie, alors même qu’il considérait, à propos de l’inconscient, que la métaphore (qv.) et la poésie constituaient des clés d’interprétation, en particulier pour les rêves. Aussi, la nature anarchique de l’inconscient, associée à la dimension symbolique et métaphorique de la poésie, pourrait-elle permettre d’exprimer efficacement certains tabous (cf. le symbolisme onirique de Lorca, qv.). Ainsi, ce qu’on appel le lapsus freudien n’est en fait que le « ça » de l’inconscient tentant de se frayer un chemin à travers les règles et conventions des comportements socialement tolérés : « l’artisan » (la déraison), au sens où l’entend Bruner (p.140), « menant d’âpres négociations dans ses transactions avec l’ego ». |
