Source text - English Ibuprofen is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that is commonly used for the relief of symptoms of arthritis, fever, primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual pains), and as an analgesic (a medication given to reduce pain without resulting in loss of consciousness). Ibuprofen also has an antiplatelet effect (protects from blood clots), though less than aspirin. The World Health Organization (WHO) includes ibuprofen in its "Essential Drugs List"; a list of minimal medical needs for a basic health care system.
How does ibuprofen work?
Ibuprofen blocks the production of prostaglandins, substances our body releases in response to illness and injury. Prostaglandins cause pain and swelling (inflammation); they are released in the brain and can also cause fever.
Ibuprofen's painkilling effects kick in soon after a dose is taken. Ibuprofen's anti-inflammatory effects can take a bit longer, sometimes a few weeks.

Ibuprofen was derived form propionic acid by researchers at the Boots Company (Boots Group Plc), UK, during the 1960s. The Boots Group is a large chain of UK pharmacies. It was discovered by Stewart Adams, with colleagues John Nicholson, Andrew RM Dunlop, Jeffery Bruce Wilson & Colin Burrows, and was patented in 1961. Dr. Adams initially tested the drug on a hangover.
In 1969 it was launched as a medication for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in the UK in 1969, and in the USA in 1974. The Boots Group was awarded the Queen's Award for Technical Achievement for the development of ibuprofen in 1987.
What is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)?
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, also known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents/analgesics (NSAIAs) or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIMs), are medications with analgesic, antipyretic (something that reduces a fever), and in higher doses anti-inflammatory effects.
Ibuprofen side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to ibuprofen: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop taking this medicine and seek medical attention or call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
• chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance;
• black, bloody, or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• swelling or rapid weight gain;
• urinating less than usual or not at all;
• nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash ;
• bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; or
• severe headache, neck stiffness, chills, increased sensitivity to light, and/or seizure (convulsions).
Less serious ibuprofen side effects may include:
• upset stomach, mild heartburn, diarrhea , constipation;
• bloating, gas;
• dizziness, headache, nervousness;
• skin itching or rash;
• blurred vision; or
• ringing in your ears.

Nombre y tipo de prueba
La citología vaginal es una prueba en la que se analizan células mediante un estudio anatomopatológico. También se conoce con el nombre de prueba de Papanicolau.
¿Qué es la citología vaginal?
El útero se comunica con la vagina a través del cérvix o cuello del útero. El cuello se encuentra recubierto por un epitelio de células escamosas y cilíndricas.
La citología vaginal es una prueba que consiste en la toma de una muestra de las células epiteliales que recubren el cuello de útero para su posterior estudio con microscopio, y así poder observar precozmente cambios en la forma de las células que, tras la aplicación de medidas oportunas, impidan una posible progresión hacia el cáncer.
¿Cómo se realiza?
La paciente debe estar tumbada en posición ginecológica.
Se introduce un espéculo (sin lubricante) en la vagina.
Con una espátula se recoge tres tomas: del interior del cuello, del exterior del cuello, y del fondo de la vagina.
Se extienden las tomas sobre un porta (lámina de cristal), se fija con un spray, y se envía al laboratorio de anatomía patológica para su estudio.
¿Para qué sirve?
Se utiliza como screening o cribaje para el diagnóstico precoz del cáncer de cérvix (cuello del útero), aunque no es en si misma una prueba diagnóstica, ya que cuando sus resultados son sospechosos o positivos, se precisa siempre de otras pruebas (biopsia) para diagnosticar la existencia de un cáncer de cuello de útero.
No sirve para el diagnóstico de otros cánceres ginecológicos, como el cáncer de ovarios o el cáncer de útero (endometrio).
Mediante la citología vaginal también se obtienen resultados sobre la posible existencia de infecciones vaginales.
¿Cuándo debe realizarse?
La citología vaginal está indicada en toda mujer sexualmente activa, y debe realizarse con una periodicidad que suele oscilar entre el año y los 5 años, en función de los resultados de las citologías previas, y de la pertenencia o no a grupos de riesgo.
Son factores de riesgo para el desarrollo del cáncer de cérvix, y por tanto la indicación de la citología es más importante y se debe realizar con más frecuencia, los siguientes:
• Inicio de relaciones sexuales en edades jóvenes.
• Relaciones sexuales con múltiples compañeros.
• Relaciones sexuales con compañero que haya tenido múltiples parejas.
• Antecedentes de infección por el virus del papiloma humano (HPV).
• Nivel socioeconómico bajo.
• Tabaquismo.
• Multiparidad

NAME AND TYPE OF TEST
A vaginal cytology (also known as a Pap smear or a Pap test) is a medical exam in which a sample of cells is analyzed by means of an anatomic pathological study.
WHAT IS A PAP SMEAR?
The cervix or neck of the uterus extends into the vagina. The neck is covered by an epithelium of cylindrical and squamous cells.
A Pap smear is a medical procedure in which the doctor scrapes samples of cells from the lining of the cervix. These cells are then examined under a microscope in order to identify any early changes in their shape, hence permitting a suitable treatment to prevent the possible transformation into cervical cancer.
HOW IS IT DONE?
The patient should be lying on the exam table with her feet in the stirrups.
A speculum (without lubrication) is inserted into the vagina.
Three samples are collected with a spatula: from the inside of the neck, from outside of the neck, and from the bottom of the vagina.
The collected cells are smeared onto a microscope slide, coated with a fixative spray, and sent to a pathology laboratory for examination.
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
A Pap smear is a screening test for early diagnosis of cancer of the cervix (neck of the uterus). However, when its results are doubtful or positive, other testing (biopsy) is required to diagnose the presence of cervical cancer. Therefore, a Pap smear is not a diagnostic test by itself.
A Pap smear is not intended to detect other gynecologic cancers, such as those of the ovaries, or uterus (endometrium).
The Pap smear results can also determine if there are vaginal infections.
WHEN SHOULD IT BE DONE?
Pap smears are recommended for all sexually active women, and the guideline for testing is anytime between one to five years, depending on the previous test results, and the risk group factor of the patient.
More frequent Pap smear screenings are recommended under the following conditions, which are risk factors for developing cervical cancer:
• Sexual intercourse at a young age
• Sexual intercourse with multiple partners
• Sexual intercourse with a partner who has had multiple partners
• History of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection
• Low socio-economic factors
• Smoking
• Multiple child birth deliveries
