Source text - English For as long as I can remember, I remember fear. Existential fear.
The Israel I grew up in—the Israel of the mid-1960s—was energetic,
exuberant, and hopeful. But I always felt that beyond the well-to-do
houses and upper-middle-class lawns of my hometown lay a dark ocean.
One day, I dreaded, that dark ocean would rise and drown us all. A
mythological tsunami would strike our shores and sweep my Israel
away. It would become another Atlantis, lost in the depths of the sea.
One morning in June 1967, when I was nine years old, I came upon
my father shaving in the bathroom. I asked him if the Arabs were going
to win. Would the Arabs conquer our Israel? Would they really throw
us all into the sea? A few days later the Six Day War began.
In October 1973, the sirens of imminent disaster began to wail. I
was in bed with the fl u in the late noon of that silent Yom Kippur as
F-4 jets tore through the sky. They were fl ying 500 feet above our roof
en route to the Suez Canal to fend off the invading Egyptian forces that
took Israel by surprise. Many of them never returned. I was sixteen
years old, and I was petrifi ed as the news came in of the collapse of our
defenses in the Sinai desert and the Golan Heights. For ten terrifying
days it seemed that my primordial fears were justifi ed. Israel was in
peril. The walls of the third Jewish temple were shaking.
Translation - Czech Co si jen dokáži vzpomenout, vzpomenu si na strach. Existenční strach. Izrael, v němž jsem vyrostl, – Izrael v polovině šedesátých let – byl zemí kypící energií, plnou života a naděje. Vždy jsem ale cítil, že za fasádami domů s pečlivě upravenými trávníky, v nichž v mém rodném městě žije horní střední třída, se skrývá temný oceán. A kteréhosi dne se ve mně vzedmula obava, že tenhle temný oceán vystoupí ze svých břehů a my v něm všichni utoneme. Jakási mýtická tsunami náhle udeří a spláchne můj Izrael z povrchu zemského a ten se stane novou Atlantidou, ztracenou v hlubinách moře.
Jednoho červnového rána roku 1967 – bylo mi tehdy devět let, jsem narazil na otce, jak se holí v koupelně. Zeptal jsem se ho, zda je to pravda, že Arabové vyhrají. Dobudou náš Izrael? Naházejí nás opravdu všechny do moře? O několik dní později začala Šestidenní válka.
V říjnu 1973 začaly kvílet sirény, ohlašující blížící se katastrofu. V pozdním odpoledni onoho tichého Jom Kippuru jsem ležel v posteli s chřipkou, když oblohu protnuly stíhací letouny F-4. Prolétávaly nějakých sto padesát metrů nad střechou našeho domu a mířily k Suezskému průplavu, aby odrazily útok egyptských jednotek, které napadly Izrael. Řada z nich se tehdy z akce nevrátila zpět. Bylo mi šestnáct a zkameněl jsem hrůzou, když k nám dorazily zprávy o zhroucení našich obranných postavení v Sinajské poušti a na Golanských výšinách. Po deset hrůzostrašných dní se zdálo, že mé někdejší obavy se naplnily. Izrael byl v nebezpečí. Zdi „Třetího“ židovského chrámu se otřásaly.
German to Czech: Rechts ist nicht rechts – oder doch?
Source text - German Marine Le Pens Front National signalisiert, wo immer es geht, Sympathien für Israel. Die niederländische Freiheitspartei PVV wetteifert mit der österreichischen FPÖ darin, Verständnis für den Staat der Juden zu zeigen. In der Schweiz demonstriert Christoph Blochers SVP, dass es ihr um den Kampf gegen Minarette und Moscheen geht – und nicht gegen Synagogen. Die Parteien am rechten Rande des westeuropäischen Parteienspektrums sind Parteien, deren nationales Abgrenzungsbedürfnis sich nicht in Attacken auf „die Juden“ äußert, sondern in einer primär gegen Muslime gerichteten Anti-Immigrations-Politik.
Anders in den vormals kommunistischen Ländern Europas. Die ungarische Partei Jobbik steht ganz offen in der Tradition des ungarischen Antisemitismus – der Staat der Juden ist für Jobbik eine Bedrohung. Für die polnische PiS steht zwar die Abgrenzung zu Deutschland und Russland im Mittelpunkt des nationalistischen Narratives, aber im Geschichtsbild dieser immerhin zweitstärksten Partei des Sejm finden sich viele antijüdische Klischees. Und der Nationalismus der Parteien der äußerten Rechten in den baltischen Republiken und in der Ukraine ist zwar primär gegen Russland gerichtet, aber in dem dominanten Antikommunismus verbergen sich traditionelle antijüdische Vorurteile.
Translation - Czech Národní fronta Marine Le Penové projevuje pokaždé, kdy je to jen možné, sympatie vůči Izraeli. Nizozemská Strana pro svobodu PVP se s rakouskou FPÖ horlivě přetahuje o to, kdo ukáže větší pochopení pro židovský stát. Ve Švýcarsku zase Blocherova SVP nikdy neopomine bojovat proti výstavbě mešit – proti synagogám ale nic nemá. Strany na pravém okraji politického spektra v Evropě jsou uskupeními, jejichž potřeba vymezovat se v nacionálním duchu nenachází svůj výraz v útocích na „Židy“, nýbrž v protiimigrační politice zaměřené primárně proti muslimům.
Jinak je tomu v někdejších komunistických zemích. Maďarský Jobbik se profiluje zcela v tradicích maďarského antisemitismu – židovský stát znamená pro tuto stranu jednoznačně hrozbu. Pro polskou PiS představuje sice vymezení se vůči Německu a Rusku základní kámen její nacionalistické rétoriky, v pohledu na dějiny nalezneme však u této stále ještě druhé nejsilnější politické formace, zastoupené v Sejmu, řadu protižidovských klišé. Stejně tak i nacionalismus ultrapravicových stran v pobaltských republikách a na Ukrajině je namířen v prvé řadě proti Rusku, v antikomunistických postojích dominujících mezi straníky se však skrývají tradiční předsudky vůči Židům.
