As the scale, scope, and client base of business as a freelancer grew significantly, decided to incorporate an organization instead of continuing self-employment and started work as the representative of the company. Have been working as a translator and project manager at the same time, and overseeing accounting and other general affairs associated with the operations of the company. Initially offered translation services to firms to which I used to belong. Sometimes took over roles of simultaneous interpreter and attended opportunities to bridge inter-linguistic communications at clients' seminars and conferences held by, for example, their US headquarters and their Japanese affiliates. Through this independent position, acquired basic as well as practical approaches for various translation and document localization project management.

The company's primary operations were development and distribution of its proprietary warehouse management software applications. There, responsible for localization of computer software applications, including translation of user interface displays coded in software source programs, software accompanying documents, whitepapers, and specifications. Also served as the main contact for third-party translation agencies to assign, collect, and edit related translation projects. When necessary, aided communications between its US headquarters and the Japanese affiliate as an in-house simultaneous interpreter. Acquired extensive knowledge in the field of logistics in general, and warehouse management systems. The position required collaborative work with colleagues and other third-party translation vendors as well as effort to independently work on various literature in a concentrated manner.

Primarily responsible for all computer operations and solutions rollouts, from planning and implementation to administration and maintenance. Simultaneously served as in-house translator in addition to secretarial duties for the president such as management of in-house project flows, discussions involving cost-effectiveness issues on ongoing projects, and workload coordination among staff members. Clients included Eicon Technology Inc., Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard Japan, Hitachi, Manugistics, Network Associates Inc., Nikkei BP, Tivoli Systems Inc. Provided technical support for entire office (seamless software solutions, network-related fault processing, multilingual data conversions and corporate LAN administration). Position required individual initiative, strong interpersonal skills and commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted progress of daily office operations. Interestingly, translation work in the area of LAN administration contributed significantly to knowledge and skills in this area.

- Freelance Translator (Apr 95–Feb 97)
Provided independent translation services for companies and individuals in Tokyo. Translated a broad range of English documents into Japanese for DuPont, Lucent Technologies, Actel and others. Wrote article on OED, which appeared in the November 1998 issue of DIME, a publication of Shogakukan in Tokyo, Japan. Translated Due Consideration—Controversy in the Age of Medical Miracles (by Authur Caplan, November 1999). Also translated various patent applications and associated correspondence. This work required extensive knowledge of the natural sciences, the ability to work independently and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
