Bio

After many years as a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, first in French and subsequently in English as a Second/Other Language, I have recently launched myself into a new career as a translation. I am excited about developing another aspect of my lifelong passion for all aspects of language.

I am a very fluent and knowledgeable speaker, reader and writer of French with a particular expertise in succinct written English. I am fascinated by language and am constantly honing my skills in translation.

My undergraduate degree was in French Language & Literature from the University of London (1974) where translation to and from French were an integral part of the language practice and development. I lived and taught in France and have continued a strong connection with the country and friends and family there. Here in Australia I continue to read widely in French and follow sources of French art and literary commentary as well as news and politics. I am also active in the French-speaking community, both as a volunteer for the French Assist program here and socially.

I taught French for several years and eventually transferred my skills to teaching English as a Second Language in which I excelled in teaching academic writing to pre-university students. worked as a Workplace Communication consultant for ten years, training both native and non-native speakers of English at all levels of organisations to develop effective spoken and written communication skills and strategies.

Completing a Masters of Applied Linguistics deepened my understanding and interest in language and provided me with valuable insights for my teaching and my new career as a translator.

I am now ready for the new and exciting challenge of translating and already have some experience in translating complex legal documents and identity papers for incoming tourists and migrants.
