Bio

Linguistic Background

As an English and Shona native language speaker, I have been navigating between different languages since my earliest childhood. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe but have since lived in the UK and France. I fell in love with French during my school days, completing a BA (Hons) in Literary Studies and French at the University of Manchester and the Université de Bourgogne. I then continued to hone my English writing skills with an MA in Journalism Studies. I currently live in Bristol (England) and cross-cultural communication is an integral part of my daily life.

Areas of Expertise

Having settled in 3 different countries, I am passionate about and well-versed in matters related to immigration, naturalisation (particularly in the UK) and travel. I have over 10 years' experience in the field of education as a qualified French tutor, English Language/Literature/EFL (CELTA) teacher and Drama teacher. Over the last 5 years, I have specifically been providing one to one support for students with a range of special educational needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia and autism.

In addition to my experiences in the education field, I have completed a Diploma in Professional Proofreading and Copy Editing (2004) and a course in writing fiction for young adults (2015). Since 2007, I have been a member of The Actors' Workshop, a Bristol-based semi-professional theatre company. Alongside my regular performances with them, I have also been running a theatre club for teenagers for the last 6 years. I am a keen hiker and wild camper with a particular interest in developments in equipment.

What I can offer you

My combined experiences as an immigrant, education specialist, theatre practitioner and writer have all impressed upon me the importance of messages. The cornerstone of my work is to maintain the integrity of the source message across languages, creating a translation of the highest quality. I am very much a believer in quality rather than quantity and will turn down a job if I feel I am unable to do it well.
