Когда нужно придать еде чуть более тонкий сладковатый аромат, в ход идут плодовые деревья, и никогда хвойные – от них смолянистый вкус и канцерогены. В печных рецептах тоже свои плюсы. Например, масла понадобится в два-три раза меньше, чем при сковороде. В ходе приготовления блюдо время от времени поливают бульоном, чтобы не подгорело, в результате с одной стороны оно выходит словно слегка подпаренным. Да и сухой зажаренной корочки на нем не получится, зато будет явственно ощущаться легкий подкопченный привкус. Вот только придется набраться терпения: кусок мяса в печи приготовится не быстрее, чем за полтора часа, да и традиционная гречневая каша должна простоять хотя бы час двадцать. Гурманы об этой особенности знают и, собираясь в ресторан, заказывают печное заранее, по телефону. Рестораны, в свою очередь, обзаводятся печами в расчете угодить постоянным посетителям.
В легендарной «Царской охоте» русская печь появилась всего три года назад. Новая страничка в меню тут же распалась на две части – оказалось, что вкуснее всего в печи получаются блюда большие, рассчитанные на компанию, - запеченный целиком молочный ягненок и молодой поросенок с хрустящими глянцевыми боками, упитанная утка и длинная жирная стерлядка.
Translation - English No modern fuel is required. Only firewood. First, birch wood, to heat it up quickly, then alder wood, to maintain the heat in the furnace. To give the food a slightly more delicate sweetish aroma, fruit trees are used, but never coniferous – they give a resinous aftertaste and contain carcinogens. Stove recipes also have their pluses. For example, you need two or three times less oil than with a frying pan. During the cooking process, stock is poured on the dish from time to time so that it does not burn, and as a result from one side it looks as if slightly streamed. And you won’t get a dry roasted crust on it; instead the food acquires a distinct light smoked aftertaste. You just need patience: a piece of meat will take no less than one and a half hours to cook in the stove, and traditional buckwheat porridge has to stand for at least an hour twenty. Gourmands know of this particularity and, getting ready to go to a restaurant, order stove-made dishes in advance over the phone. Restaurants, in turn, acquire stoves in order to please regular customers.
In the legendary “Tsarskaya Okhota” a Russian stove appeared only three years ago. The new page in the menu immediately divided into two parts – it turned out that the dishes that turn out the best are the large ones, prepared for a group, - baked whole baby lamb, and piglet with glossy crunchy sides, plump duck and long fatty sterlet.

Строго говоря, это не один музей, а огромный музейный комплекс, даже беглый осмотр которого займет целый день. В него входят получившие статус музеев соборы – Успенский, Архангельский и Благовещенский, церковь Ризположения, Патриаршие палаты XVII века с церковью Двенадцати Апостолов, недавно отреставрированный ансамбль колокольни Ивана Великого и Государственная Оружейная палата, ради посещения которой большинство посетителей и идут в Кремль. Пускают в эту сокровищницу русских царей строго по сеансам, поэтому в выходной день на вход можно отстоять солидную очередь. Но время ожидания того стоит, а потратить его можно на осмотр великолепных кремлевских соборов, к строительству которых приложили руку лучшие итальянские архитекторы эпохи Возрождения.
Оружейная палата, одно из первых музейных зданий в России, была построена с большим размахом по проекту архитектора Тона, строившего храм Христа Спасителя, поэтому она больше похожа на дворец, нежели на музей. Под стать внешнему облику и внутреннее содержание. В девяти огромных залах собраны богатейшие коллекции церемониальных предметов и государственных регалий вроде венцов и скипетров, коллекция царских тронов, начиная со скромно отделанного слоновой костью трона Ивана Грозного и заканчивая алмазным троном Алексея Михайловича, оружие и доспехи, русское и западноевропейское серебро, драгоценные ткани и, наконец, семнадцать парадных экипажей, изготовленных лучшими российскими и западными мастерами. Здесь же, в Оружейной палате, выставлена и коллекция изделий Карла Фаберже, привлекающая едва ли не больше внимания, чем все несметные сокровища русских самодержцев.

State Historical and Cultural Open Air Museum “Moscow Kremlin”
Technically speaking, this isn’t a single museum, but rather a giant museum complex, even the surface viewing of which would take a whole day. It includes the cathedrals which have been given museum status – Uspenskiy, Arkhangelsky and Blagovechensky, the Church of the Deposition of the Robe of the Holy Virgin, seventeenth century Patriarch’s Palace with the Church of the Twelve Apostles, the newly restored bell tower of Ivan the Great, and the Armoury, most visitors’ reason for coming to the Kremlin in the first place. Entry to this treasury of the Russian tsars is granted strictly in sessions so on a weekend you can be queuing up for a long time. But the waiting is worth it, and can be spent viewing the splendid Kremlin cathedrals; some of the best Italian architects of the Renaissance epoch have had a hand in their construction.
The Armoury, one of the first museum buildings in Russia, was built on a large scale according to the design of the architect Ton who was building the Church of Christ the Saviour, which is why it resembles a palace rather than a museum. The contents match the exterior. Nine giant halls contain the richest collections of ceremonial objects and government regalia such as crowns and sceptres, a collection of the tsars’ thrones, starting with the throne of Ivan the Terrible, modestly inlaid with ivory, and finishing with the diamond throne of Aleksey Mikhailovich, weapons and armour, Russian and Western European silver, precious cloths, and finally, seventeen festive carriages, made by the best Russian and Western craftsmen. A collection of Carl Fabergé’s creations is also displayed here, in the Armoury Palace, attracting almost more attention than all the infinite treasures of the Russian tsars combined.

Place: Today, B1 Maximum is Moscow’s biggest combined concert venue and dance club, with capacity 3500. The inside of the former factory warehouse, named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze, has been somewhat rebuilt, with tiers of boxes erected across from the stage and VIP seats along the sides. The bars and the improvised cafes are located in the main dance floor area. Western and Russian stars perform here every week, ensuring sold-out gigs and giving “B1” the capital’s top nightclub status. Bands such as Placebo, The Rasmus, Sonic Youth, Fall Out Boy; international dancefloor gurus, such as Timo Maas, Jeff Mills, Goldie and many others have all been here. Apart from that, jazz nights and thematic festivals on the premises are far from rare. On the 22nd of September, for example, the famous American jazz saxophonist Archie Shepp will perform here.
The crowd in “B1” varies, depending on who’s performing. Vigilant face control professionals keep a handle on the situation, barring suspicious individuals from entering the club. The main dancefloor, as a rule, is ‘occupied’ by young people who want to be closer to their idols. Clients of a respectable age prefer to get comfortable in the special VIP boxes.

I have studied Spanish and Translation Studies at the University of Warwick, UK and the Universidad de Puerto Rico, graduating with honours in 2004, am fully bilingual in Russian and English, and fluent in Spanish.
I have been a freelance translator and interpreter since 2005. During that time I've done several stints as an interpreter for American attorneys-at-law in Odessa, Ukraine, and Novorossiysk, Russia, respectively. During that time I used my knowledge of the Russian language and culture to facilitate exploration of their clients' background.
