Source text - Russian Сама идея строительства Музея современного искусства сегодня, в разгар кризиса, когда правительство готово поддерживать только две сферы — социальную и оборонную, — выглядит призрачной, как мираж в пустыне. Пресс-конференция, прошедшая практически сразу же после заседания коллегии Министерства культуры, на которой было принято историческое решение «Музею быть!», была созвана скорее для того, чтобы заключить в публичном пространстве символический «договор о намерениях» между ГЦСИ и государственной волей в лице заместителя министра культуры РФ Павла Хорошилова. Финансирование проекта еще не началось. Вопрос о выделении столь крупной суммы еще не рассматривался правительством. И только когда высшая власть даст добро Минфину направить финансовый поток в сторону ГЦСИ, о новом музее можно будет говорить как о реальном факте.
Translation - English In the midst of an economic crisis, when the government is withholding support from everything but social and military projects, the very idea of building a contemporary art museum seems illusory. After deciding to push forward with the museum, the Ministry of Culture called a press conference almost immediately—but mostly just to ensure that the symbolic letter of intent between the NCCA and the state, as represented by Deputy Minister of Culture Pavel Khoroshilov, was signed in the public eye. The project hasn’t been funded, and the government has yet to even discuss how large a sum it will allocate. Only once the Ministry of Finance receives permission to forward the money to the NCCA can we begin talking about the new museum as a sure thing.
