Source text - English On the basis of its regular economic and monetary analyses, the Governing Council decided at its meeting on 5 November 2009 to leave the key ECB interest rates unchanged. The current rates remain appropriate. The incoming information and analyses that have become available since the meeting on 8 October have confirmed the Governing Council’s expectations. While annual HICP inflation was -0.1% in October, according to Eurostat’s flash estimate, it is expected to turn positive again in the coming months and to remain at moderately positive rates over the policy-relevant horizon. At the same time, the latest information continues to signal an improvement in economic activity in the second half of this year. The Governing Council expects the euro area economy in 2010 to recover at a gradual pace, recognising that the outlook remains subject to high uncertainty. Medium to longer-term inflation expectations remain firmly anchored in line with the Governing Council’s aim of keeping inflation rates below, but close to, 2% over the medium term. The outcome of the monetary analysis confirms the assessment of low inflationary pressure over the medium term, as money and credit growth continues to slow down. Against this background, the Governing Council expects price stability to be maintained over the medium term, thereby supporting the purchasing power of euro area households.
With regard to the economic analysis, available data and survey-based indicators continue to signal an improvement in economic activity in the second half of this year. In particular, the euro area should benefit from the inventory cycle and a recovery in exports, as well as from the significant macroeconomic stimulus under way and the measures adopted to restore the functioning of the financial system. Taking into account all available information, in the second half of this year, quarterly real GDP growth rates could be back in positive territory. However, uncertainty remains high as a number of the supporting factors are of a temporary nature. Looking through the volatility of incoming data, the euro area economy is expected to recover at a gradual pace in 2010, as it is likely to be affected over the medium term by the process of ongoing balance sheet adjustment in the financial and the non-financial sector, both inside and outside the euro area.
Translation - Greek Με βάση την οικονομική και νομισματική ανάλυση που διενεργεί σε τακτική βάση, το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο αποφάσισε, κατά τη συνεδρίαση της 5ης Νοεμβρίου 2009, να διατηρήσει αμετάβλητα τα βασικά επιτόκια της ΕΚΤ. Τα ισχύοντα επιτόκια εξακολουθούν να κρίνονται ενδεδειγμένα. Οι εισερχόμενες πληροφορίες και αναλύσεις που έγιναν διαθέσιμες μετά την τελευταία συνεδρίαση στις 8 Οκτωβρίου επιβεβαιώνουν τις προσδοκίες του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου. Συγκεκριμένα, η ζώνη του ευρώ αναμένεται να ωφεληθεί από την κυκλική εξέλιξη των αποθεμάτων και την ανάκαμψη των εξαγωγών, καθώς και από τα σημαντικά μακροοικονομικά μέτρα τόνωσης της οικονομίας που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη και τα μέτρα που έχουν ληφθεί για την αποκατάσταση της λειτουργίας του χρηματοπιστωτικού συστήματος. Εάν ληφθούν υπόψη όλες οι διαθέσιμες πληροφορίες, το β' εξάμηνο του 2009 οι τριμηνιαίοι ρυθμοί αύξησης του πραγματικού ΑΕΠ αναμένεται να επανέλθουν σε θετικά επίπεδα. Όμως, η αβεβαιότητα παραμένει υψηλή καθώς αρκετοί από τους παράγοντες που συμβάλλουν προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση έχουν προσωρινό χαρακτήρα. Πέρα από τη μεταβλητότητα που παρουσιάζουν τα εισερχόμενα στοιχεία, η οικονομία της ζώνης του ευρώ αναμένεται να ανακάμψει σταδιακά το 2010, καθώς μεσοπρόθεσμα είναι πιθανόν να επηρεαστεί από τη διαδικασία της συνεχιζόμενης προσαρμογής των ισολογισμών στο χρηματοπιστωτικό και το μη χρηματοπιστωτικό τομέα, τόσο εντός όσο και εκτός της ζώνης του ευρώ.

Bio
I am a Greek native speaker and I currently live in the Netherlands. I have a Bachelor's degree in English language and Literature from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, during which I attended many courses on translation. After the completion of my Bachelor's degree, I studied Translation at the University of Surrey, UK, obtaining the Master's degree in Translation, specialising in the translation of Business/ Economics and European Union texts from English into Greek and Greek into English.
Later on, I worked as a trainee at the Greek Translation Unit of the Language Services Division at the European central Bank, where I received even further training on translation tools and got to translate, edit and proofread several European Union texts with a focus on Economics from English into Greek.
At the time being I am working as a freelance sworn translator of the Netherlands and as a translator at the Embassy of Greece in the Netherlands.
