Source text - French Structure moléculaire des immunoglobulines
Les immunoglobulines possèdent toutes la même structure de base. Elles sont constituées de quatre chaînes peptiques : deux chaînes longues, les chaînes ‘lourdes’ ou chaînes H ( pour heavy ) reliées par des ponts disulfure à deux chaînes peptidiques plus courtes, les chaînes ‘légères’ ou L (pour light ) (figure 3). Il existe cinq grands types de chaînes lourdes (γ, µ, α, δ et ε) qui déterminent la classe de l’anticorps et deux grands types de chaînes légères (κ et λ).
Les IgG sont des monomères formés de la structure de base des quatre chaînes. Les IgM sont des pentamères composés de cinq unités de base et d’une chaîne supplémentaire, la chaîne J ou chaîne de jonction. De ce fait, le poids moléculaire des IgM est environ 6 fois celui des IgG. Les IgA existent sous deux formes, l’une présente dans le sérum, l’autre dans les sécrétions. Les IgA sériques sont des monomères, composés d’une seule structure de base. Les IgA sécrétoires (IgAs) sont des dimères, composés de deux unités, avec en plus une chaîne J et un élément sécrétoire (figure 3).
Les immunoglobulines peuvent être décomposées en fragments actifs par digestion enzymatique. Le fragment principal, F(ab’)2 , représente la ‘tête’ d’une structure en Y ; il est composé de deux sous-fragments Fab. On les appelle ainsi parce qu’ils se lient à l’antigène (antigen-binding). Chaque fragment Fab possède un site de liaison. Chaque molécule d’IgG possède donc deux sites de liaison, chaque molécule d’IgM dix sites de liaison (2 x 5).
Le fragment Fc (la ‘jambe’ de la structure en Y) ne possède pas de site de liaison à l’antigène, mais il confère à la molécule certaines activités biologiques, notamment la capacité d’activer le complément et de se lier aux récepteurs présents sur les macrophages. Ces propriétés sont importantes pour l’opsonisation. Des anticorps spécifiques, les opsonines, recouvrent les microorganismes infectieux et les désignent à l’attaque des macrophages.
Les macrophages engloutissent les microorganismes recouverts d’anticorps par le processus de phagocytose. Le fragment Fc est également responsable du passage des IgG à travers le placenta.

Svi imunoglobulini imaju istu osnovnu strukturu. Sastoje se od četiri peptidna lanca: od dva duga lanca, odnosno „teških“ lanaca ili H lanaca (eng. heavy) vezanih disulfidnim mostom na dva kraća peptidna lanca, odnosno „laka“ lanca ili L lanca (eng. light) (slika 3). Postoji pet vrsta teških lanaca (γ, µ, α, δ, ε) koji određuju klasu protutijela i dvije vrste lakih lanaca (κ i λ).
IgG-i su monomeri kojima je osnovna struktura sastavljena od četiri lanca. IgM-i su pentameri sastavljeni od pet osnovnih jedinica i jednog dodatnog lanca, lanca J. Iz toga proizlazi da je molekularna težina IgM-a veća oko 6 puta od težine IgG-a. IgA-i postoje u dva oblika, jedan je prisutan u serumu, a drugi u izlučevinama. IgA-i u serumu su monomeri, sastavljeni od samo jedne osnovne strukture. Sekretorni IgA-i (IgAs) su dimeri, sastavljeni od dvije jedinice, a uz to i od lanca J te sekretorne komponente (slika 3).
Imunoglobulini se mogu razgraditi na aktivne ulomke putem digestije restrikcijskim enzimima. Glavni ulomak F(ab')2 čini „glavu“ strukture oblika slova Y– sastavljen je od dva podulomka Fab. Tako se zovu jer se vežu na antigen (antigen-binding). Svaki ulomak Fab ima vezno mjesto. Svaka molekula IgG-a ima dakle dva vezna mjesta, a svaka molekula IgM-a deset veznih mjesta (2 x 5).
Ulomak Fc („noga“ strukture oblika slova Y) nema vezno mjesto za antigen, ali molekuli daje neke biološke aktivnosti, prvenstveno sposobnost da aktivira komplement i veže se za receptore prisutne na makrofagima.
Te značajke važne su za opsonizaciju. Opsonini, posebna protutijela, prekrivaju zarazne mikroorganizme i namijenjuju ih za napad makrofaga.
Makrofagi gutaju mikroorganizme prekrivene protutijelima u procesu fagocitoze. Ulomak Fc također je odgovoran za prijenos IgG-a preko placente.

For those who want to know how I work...
I understand how the translation process works and I always try to analyze the underlying structure of a given text for translation and all of its aspects (grammar, semantics, pragmatics, style, terminology). This is crucial to detect possible problems and to find out the right solution while dealing with them.
In my opinion, one of the major errors a translator can make is the unjustified use of calques. This technique is directly reflected to the quality and readability of the translated text. That’s why the most important thing for me is to translate according to “the genius of the language” (which varies in different LSPs). I pay special attention to fully respect the rules of the Croatian standard language. When I read the final version of my translation, I always do it without comparing it to the original. And then, when my “detector” for idiomatically wrongly transposed elements is at the highest level, I am able to correct all the remaining traces of the foreign language I’ve been “contaminated” with during the process. I will do everything so that our client doesn’t realize they are reading a translation!
