And, someone just minutes before visited my profile, and the country is Ukraine - https://i.imgur.com/x2HPW1F.png .

This then asks me to follow a link to a pdf file at google docs, where he asks (on 3 pages) to get PayPal payments from Upwork to your paypal account, and then send him a certain amount back.

Here is the link to this pdf - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Sthiig3LIx0DBkED25bR72sVLbULd2U6/view (the link is absolutely safe, I have check it).

So, a classic scam, from a textbook, now with PayPal.

Possibly a genuine offer from criminals Feb 13, 2019

Have a look here:

Especially a post by a "Lara B" (p.2) is interesting.

This seems to be a genuine offer to basically give over your computer to this guy(s) for some (probably) illegal activities. Stealing all the monetizable info on your computer could be a part of this, but I'd rather think they won't harm you and will pay you as long as you comply with their rules.
Interestingly, googling parts of this bizarre letter didn't give back any results.

I propose to open a new thread for all new scams Feb 14, 2019

For the sake of those who are still getting caught, instead of opening a separate new thread for each new scammer's name, let's have just one where we can publish all names and IP addresses "in the order of appearance" and, following the suggestion of one of the colleagues (I'm sorry I can't remember who it was) make it visible, even flashy, on the Home page.

Maybe even create a Proz mass mail! Ouch:-) with a brief explanation and a link to the thread. Just this once.

I think that would make it easier for the staff too.

Finally, they found me:-)

Hello, I'm contacting you in regard to an English content
document with 11,643 words (44 Pages). I need this document
translated to
Russian . I would like to know if you are interested please
get back to me Via [email protected]

I was soooo tempted to propose to him to get a piece of a banana tree and shove it where the sun does not shine... but just deleting this idiocy while reporting a scam was simply safer.

Maybe this one can be posted as another new Scam post to attract more attention and listen to more opinions. This is up to the staff, of course.

Hi Irina,

Maybe you are unaware of Scam alert center https://www.proz.com/about/translator-scam-alerts
There is plenty of useful information and a large archive of alerts on various scammers.

Best,
Natalia
