My name is Mark A. Barnes and I am a full-time freelance Japanese-English
translator. I am looking for new agencies and translators to collaborate
with on projects, preferably long-term projects.
My specializations are mostly in technical fields of electronics and
automotive Japanese-English translations. In addition I am also fully
capable of translating social sciences, especially Japanese-English
translations for academic papers (arts and sciences papers). My most
recent projects have been:
• Legal contracts (Japanese-English),
• Translation of two websites (English-Japanese)
• MSDS translation using Trados (Japanese-English)
• Multiple automotive translations (Japanese-English) and
• Two large transcription and translation projects for Dell
(Japanese-English)
• IT translation (Japanese-English
• Petroleum Engineering (Japanese-English)
• A technical proofreading project in robotics (Japanese-English)
After a long study-abroad and my self-employment experience in the tourism
industry these past few years my Japanese-English translation business has
done very well. However, I am always looking to conquer a new goal in the
Japanese-English translation business. Although I am a new translator, I
am not a typical beginning translator. Here’s why:
In addition to my six-year research project on the history of
civil-military relations in Japan I have a BA in Political Science from
Oklahoma State University and most importantly regarding translation I
have 1 year of study abroad in Japan in Osaka and 3 years of formal
schooling at Kyoto University all in Japanese, attaining a Master of Laws
degree in 2009. Total years in Japan: almost six years.
All of my master thesis writing was done in Japanese from English and
Japanese sources. I am also gaining additional insights into the
translation industry by reading a book on the translation business.
My home office computer equipment includes a laptop computer, two desktop
computers, (all with back ups) high-speed internet access, a scanner, and
a copier. I use 2007 and 2009 Trados SDL
With each Japanese-English translation project I undertake I guarantee
high quality work delivered on, or before the deadline, and prompt
response to emails, phone calls, and Skype calls. Please let me know if I
can provide you with any additional information.
I have attached my CV for your review.
I look forward to hearing from you soon so that we can collaborate on a
project.
Kindest Regards,
Mark A. Barnes
