In 2008 there was 620 reported serious accidents that included broken bones and amputations, there was 7 deaths.
The Fork Truck operator must be continually aware of who is working around them and keep a safe distance from them.

If an unmanned Fork Truck is left running for any reason it is an addition to the Carbon emissions as well as an extra fuel cost to the company.

5 Foot Rule!
Statistics show that Fork Truck accidents variably happen when the operator stops to communicate with pedestrians.
In a recent accident a pedestrian was leaning against the front of a truck while talking to the driver, the driver accidentally lifted the forks up and the pedestrian got his fingers caught in the chains resulting in him having one finger amputated.
If for you are stationary for any reason and another operator is within 5 feet of the truck then for safety turn off the engine.
Be Heard and Seen!
Fork Truck operators should slow down and sound the horn at every corner or junction.
The beacon should be turned on every time the truck is in motion.
Lights should be used when operating in poor light.
Vision!
Fork Truck operators should ensure they can clearly see the way ahead when moving large or bulky loads.
If they can not see the road ahead clearly because of the load, the truck must be driven in reverse
