Source text - French Ferdinand de Saussure rejetait le primat de l’existence ontologique des objets de connaissance au profit de leur construction dans et par la pratique scientifique : « c’est le point de vue qui crée l’objet ». Michel Foucault, qui entendait repérer les « mutations qui s’opèrent en général dans le domaine de l’histoire des connaissances » avec l’idée que les discours ne sont pas de simples représentations des choses mais « des pratiques qui forment systématiquement les objets dont ils parlent ».
Translation - English Ferdinand de Saussure rejected the assumption of the ontological existence of material objects in the world in favour of an empirical approach to their construction, rooted in pure science, arguing that ‘The object is a mental construct”. Michel Foucault wanted to identify the, ‘Changes that take place at a more general level in the field of the history of systems of thought’ with the idea that discourses are not simple representations of things, but rather, “practices that are systematically defining the objects that are being spoken about”.
