Source text - Polish Analiza pochodzenia udomowionych gatunków zwierząt jest przedmiotem szerokiego zainteresowania i ma wiele praktycznych zastosowań w takich dziedzinach, jak rolnictwo oraz biologia ewolucyjna. Określenie przodka oraz jego porównanie z udomowioną formą pozwala na analizę genetyczną, fizjologiczną, morfologiczną oraz behawioralną skutków udomowienia. W związku z ponad 100-letnim procesem hodowlanym lisa pospolitego, można się spodziewać różnic na poziomie chromosomowym pomiędzy populacjami hodowlanymi, a dziko żyjącymi. Celem pracy była analiza polimorfizmu na poziomie chromosomowym u lisów pospolitych z populacji hodowlanej oraz dziko żyjącej. Materiał doświadczalny stanowiły próbki krwi oraz fragmenty tkanki płucnej pobrane poubojowo od 35 lisów pospolitych, w tym 28 lisów hodowlanych i 7 dzikich. W badaniach wykorzystano zarówno metody cytogenetyki klasycznej: lokalizację prążków AgNOR, jak i molekularnej: fluorescencyjną hybrydyzację in situ (FISH), znakowanie DNA in situ przy udziale startera (PRINS). Analiza liczby chromosomów B wykazała występowanie polimorfizmu wśród lisów pospolitych z obu populacji badanych, niemniej jednak nie zaobserwowano zależności pomiędzy liczbą chromosomów B a pochodzeniem czy płcią poszczególnych osobników. Przeprowadzona analiza aktywnych obszarów jąderkotwórczych wykazała występowanie dużego polimorfizmu ich liczby oraz tendencję do zmniejszania liczby regionów NOR w populacjach hodowlanych.
Translation - English Analysis of the origin of domesticated animals is the subject of wide interest and has many practical applications in areas such as agriculture and evolutionary biology. Identification of an ancestor and its comparison with the domesticated form allows for the analysis of genetic, physiological, morphological and behavioral effects of domestication. Due to the over 100-year-old fox breeding process, you can expect differences between the captive-raised and wild living populations at the chromosomal level. Aim of this work was to analyse the polymorphisms at the chromosomal level in foxes raised on farms and those living in the wild. Blood samples and lung tissue specimens served as the experimental material and were obtained after slaughter from 35 foxes, including 28 captive-bred animals and 7 wild animals. The study used classical cytogenetic methods: the localisation of AgNOR bands; as well as molecular methods like fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and labeling of DNA using primed in situ labeling (PRINS). Analysis of the number of B chromosomes showed the presence of polymorphisms in foxes from both studied populations, but there was no correlation between the number of B chromosomes and the origin or gender of particular individuals. The analysis of active nucleolar organizers, showed the presence of large polymorphism in their number and the tendency of NORs reduction in captive-raised population.

Source text - English Percutaneous Pulmonary Valve Implantation
In January 2010 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Melody valve (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minn) for percutaneous implantation in the pulmonary position in patients with dysfunctional right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery conduits implanted surgically at the time of repair of certain congenital heart defects. This novel technology may delay the need for surgical conduit replacement. The valve is a bovine jugular venous valve mounted on a CP stent (NuMED, Hopkinton, NY), which is a platinum iridium stent, and is MRI compatible (Fig. 5-82). This has become an option for patients with pulmonary conduit stenosis and/or insufficiency, allowing restoration of pulmonary valve function. The valve is implanted within the existing conduit, which is expanded up to the original size. Available sizes range from 18 to 22 mm in diameter. The technique of Melody valve implantation within a stenotic right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery conduit is illustrated in Figures 5-83 through 5-85. This procedure may also benefit selected patients with tetralogy of Fallot who were initially repaired without a conduit and have developed severe pulmonary regurgitation years later.

W styczniu 2010 roku Amerykańska Agencja ds. Żywności i Leków zatwierdziła zastawkę Melody (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minn) do użytku przy przezskórnej implantacji w pozycji płucnej u pacjentów z dysfunkcyjną protezą łączącą prawą komorę z tętnicami płucnymi wszczepioną chirurgicznie podczas operacji naprawczej określonych wad serca. Ta nowatorska technologia może opóźnić potrzebę wymiany chirurgicznej protezy. Zastawka ta jest wołową, szyjną zastawką żylną zamontowaną na platynowo-irydowym stencie CP (NuMED, Hopkinton, NY), który jest zgodny z MRI (ryc. 5-82). Ta procedura jest opcją dla pacjentów ze stenozą płucną protezy i/lub niewydolnością, i pozwala na przywrócenie funkcji zastawki płucnej. Zastawka jest wszczepiania do istniejącej protezy, która jest poszerzana do oryginalnego rozmiaru. Dostępne są rozmiary średnic w przedziale od 18 do 22 mm. Technika implantacji zastawki Melody do zwężonej protezy łączącej prawą komorę z tętnicą płucną jest zilustrowana na rycinach od 5-83 do 5-85. Ta procedura może być również przydatna dla wybranych pacjentów z tetralogią Fallota, którzy przeszli operację bez wszczepiania implantu i u których po latach rozwinęła się ciężka niedomykalność zastawki płucnej.
