I am a German<>English translator with a strong academic background, which I acquired at German and American Universities. I can add to that full admission and a semester abroad at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.
Over time I have studied English, French, Mandarin, Dutch and Spanish. I have put these languages to use, traveling to many European countries, China, Tibet, Nepal and throughout Central America. However, I focus on German and English in my translation work.
I grew up in Germany, but live in San Francisco, California. Here I have worked for different non-profit organizations in the conservation and environmental fields, including two environmental law firms for over a decade.
Five years ago, I decided to start my own translation business. Being a translator allows me to keep feeding my curiosity and to constantly expand my knowledge. I learned quickly that translation is not only about language content, but also about knowing and using technology.
Many of my projects are website and mobile app translations these days. Being located in San Francisco, the current heart of the tech industry, think Twitter, Dropbox, Jawbone, Square, has opened up a new avenue for me. I now also do on-site and remote language QA.
To make sure my vocabulary stays fresh in German, besides visiting my family in Germany and lots of reading online, I am taking classes through coursera, which started offering classes in German. I am taking: Informatik für Okonomen through the University of Zürich.
I also completed and earned a certificate in: Environmental Law and Policy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Other courses include: The four Dimensions of Climate Change, UC San Diego and US Law for International Students, University of Florida.
