Bio

I am a translator and a journalist, specializing in medical, scientific, technological and economic texts. I am bilingual, having obtained a Master's degree in Journalism from Leiden University in the Netherlands, where I grew up, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia in Canada, where I live.

I have translated everything from chemotherapy brochures for patients to hefty tomes on artificial intelligence. My medical and scientific expertise is grounded in a 28-year career as a journalist for major Dutch national brands such as EW (Elsevier Weekblad), NU.nl and NRC Handelsblad. I contributed to Business Insider (USA, Australia) as well.

I am also a writer with nine published books (eight in Dutch and one in English). Several of those books deal with cybercrime, social media, internet research methodologies, transmedia journalism and other aspects of information technology.

My background in creative writing makes me especially fond of transcreation. This needn't be a medical text. I am a poetry editor for literary magazine PRISM, and therefore well-equipped to work with literary texts or poems.

As a part-time contributor to Vancouver's movie industry, I am also happy to help you with your narration needs.
