Danish term

kæmpe på liv og død

Danish to English Art/Literary General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Same as ' kæmpe til døden'?
Not quite sure if this actually means 'fight to the death' or 'fight for their lives'.

De har overværet kannibaler kæmpe på liv og død over en stjålen gris.

The text is an interview for a magazine aricle. I guess it's the former but I'm not 100% sure Thanks for any help.

a life-or-death struggle

Ikke helt det samme - man dør af at ´fight to the death´, men med held kan man slippe fra en ´life-or-death struggle´ med livet i behold!

You can also be lucky enough to live to fight another day if you are fighting for your life...

Well, among the first 10 for ´life or death´ were Timesonline and among the first 10 for ´life and death´ were guardianonline and chinadaily. take your pick :-D Logically, one combatant fights to the death AND one gets away, I suppose.
