A young Danish schoolteacher from the early 20th century is described as follows: "Frk. N.N. var i det hele taget, en tryllende aand, en Mester Puk, der kunne mere end sit fadervor." I'm not quite sure how to translate "en tryllende aand" in this context... "a conjuring spirit," "a conjuring mind," "a conjuring intellect," "a magical spirit," etc. ?????????
Proposed translations

an enchanting, Puckish person
again, a little free, but it might serve your purpose.
One of those popular, slim young teachers who can make pupils listen.
'Mester Puk' was a cartoon figure in a long shirt or smock, who might strike young readers as slightly feminine in spite of the title 'Mester'.

Spellbound
It occurred to me that you could perhaps say something like:
Miss N.N. was a puckish person who could hold a class spellbound.
In times when schools had very few resources other than 'chalk and talk', schoolteachers who could tell a good story were loved and remembered long afterwards.
'Fortællingen' - especially in history and cultural subjects - was the core of the teaching.

a magic spirit
Conjuring is not right as he is not performing any such acts. You also suggest "magical"; this is wrong.
