French term

fonction du rôle

French to English Medical Medical (general)
This is an item in a table showing the assessments of the quality of life of patients with neuroendocrine tumours.

The table cites the Quality of Life Questionnaire C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and EORTC QLQ-NET-Specific Questionnaire 21 as references.

"Échelles fonctionnelles

Fonction physique
Fonction du rôle
Fonction émotionnelle
Fonction cognitive
Etc."

Is "rôle" perhaps something to do with the patients' worklives?

role functioning

Yes, I suppose I should have done that in the first place, really!

Here's a more detailed discussion. It seems opinions vary a little as to the meaning, but "role functioning" is the term.

The model defines role functioning as involvement in life situations related to family life, partner relationship, household chores, work for pay, studies, social life (including interactions with friends), leisure time activities, community involvement (including volunteer work) and everyday living activities.

The EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire incorporates a range of QOL issues, including a global QOL scale, five functional scales (physical, role, cognitive, emotional and social), three symptom scales (fatigue, pain and nausea/vomiting), and six single items (dyspnea, insomnia, appetite loss, constipation, diarrhea and financial difficulties).

Role functioning assesses a patient's ability to perform daily activities, leisure time activities, and/or work.

Here's a previous ENG-POR question about the same term, likewise mentioning the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire:
