In 1908, a well-known Danish resident of the Faroe Islands was accused of making anti-Faroese comments. In his response to the editorial staff of a Faroese newspapers, he wrote: "Vel ved jeg, at enkelte Personer soger at rakke ned paa alt Dansk; men denne Fremgangsmaade finder jeg naermest latterlig, da alt, hvad der siges om Forfolgelser fra dansk Side, ikke har noget paa sig; Fakta udviser jo, at snarere det modsatte er Tilfaeldet fra enkelte Faeringers Side."
