The gas cloud, part of the wreckage of an exploded star called the Vela supernova remnant, is formed by a pulsar, a rapidly rotating superdense neutron star that spins out rings and jets of high energy particles.

Предположение: возможно, это просто опечаточка. Просится Вега, альфа Лиры, одна из самых ярких звезд.
Версия со сверхновой лично у меня вызывает подозрения, поскольку новые и сверхновые -- явления кратковременные.
Многое зависит от того, в каком полушарии дело происходит и когда. Если в Северном, причем ближе к зиме (поздняя осень - зима - начало весны), то и Вега и Орион видны в достаточно ясную погоду.
