Portuguese term

desgovernamentalização

Portuguese to English Other Government / Politics Politics
Houve casos de interferências do governo PS nas questões editoriais?
Há um caso conhecido, quando o Executivo pediu à direcção da XXXXX que não enviasse uma equipa de reportagem a Angola para entrevistar Jonas Savimbi porque iria criar problemas ao nível da política externa. No entanto, vários directores apregoam a desgovernamentalização da XXXXX durante o período PS.

Discussion

Quotation:

«Post-Cold War degovernmentalization of foreign policy promises to be extremely challenging -- if not downright threatening -- to central governments.»
Does this mean that foreign policy is a subject that should not be dealt with by governments?! Perhaps it should be privatized...

This quotation is included in the text provided as an example by our peer William Stein below. I think it has nothing in common with the word desgovernamentalização asked by Ana Brum.

degovernmentalization

They probably translated that word directly from English into Portuguese, so now you just need to translate it back into English!:

Misgovernment

Or it could be incompetence of the government - incompetent government. Something of that nature. Hope this helps.

editorial independence

If this is going to be read by the general public, "editorial independence" is a better way of putting it. If it will be read by an audience knowledgable about politics, then use "degovernmentalization".
