IS IT SAFE AND RELIABLE?
Speaking of higher-tiered plans, you won't have to worry if you're eyeing the less comprehensive but more affordable plans. After all, each of Norton's antivirus packages is powered by the same malware engine. You might be missing out on a few extras, but you get the same level of protection against viruses, spyware, malware, ransomware, and other current and emerging threats. We also checked how Norton fared in three of the most popular testing labs that evaluate security solutions: SE Labs, AV-Comparatives, and AV-Test Institute.
SE Labs replicate live targeted attacks and gives 4 letter-based scores depending on how well the security program performed. AAA is the highest, followed by AA, A, B, and C. Norton received an AAA certification in the most recent test.

We purchased the Norton 360 Premium for this review, and we were pleased with how straightforward the setup was. It only took a couple of minutes to load before you're launched to the Quick Start Guide and your Norton dashboard. From there, you can set up and customize your Norton protection. Using it is a breeze, too, thanks to its intuitive user interface. Nothing seems out of place, and you can access menus and launch scans in a single click. You can contact Norton customer support in four different ways. Phone support is available during business hours from 9am to 9pm Monday to Sunday. If you need to talk to someone outside these hours, you can jump on the chat that's open 24/7. We tried the chat option, and it took less than a minute to connect to a live agent. The CSR was helpful and even offered remote assistance! Norton is also available on Facebook and Twitter and has a comprehensive community forum. However, we noticed that posts don't really have that much engagement, so unless you're trying to get feedback from other users, you're better off contacting support via chat.

В самой программе все продумано до мелочей, все компоненты ясно обозначены, антивирусную проверку можно запустить одним кликом. И Norton остается очень простым даже для новичков несмотря на всю мощность и богатый функционал.
НАГРУЗКА НА СИСТЕМУ
Когда-то Norton Antivirus считался очень громоздким, отнимал много оперативной памяти и сильно тормозил систему. Радует, что в Symantec серьезно занялись этой проблемой и успешно ее решили. World's most delayed software released after 54 years of development
When consumers have been promised powerful, life-changing new software, delays and postponed launches can be excruciating.
Mac OS X was first demonstrated under the code-name Rhapsody in 1997, yet version 1 release didn't arrive until a full four years later. Windows Vista was originally planned to ship in 2003, as a minor release between Windows XP and the true follow-up, but that release date slipped by three years.
However, both of those pale in comparison to "Project Xanadu", which was released without fanfare at an event at California's Chapman University in late April. Development on Xanadu began 54 years ago, in 1960, making it the most delayed software in history.
Xanadu's developer Ted Nelson is the man who coined the term "hypertext" to describe the clickable links that were created for his project: the word lives on most prominently as the "ht" in the internet abbreviation "http".
At its simplest, Xanadu lets users build documents that seamlessly embed the sources which they are linking back to, creating, in Nelson's words, "an entire form of literature where links do not break as versions change; where documents may be closely compared side by side and closely annotated; where it is possible to see the origins of every quotation; and in which there is a valid copyright system - a literary, legal and business arrangement - for frictionless, non-negotiated quotation at any time and in any amount."
The version released on the internet, named OpenXanadu, is a simple document created using quoted sections from eight other works, including the King James Bible and the Wikipedia page on Steady State Theory. Users navigate with the spacebar and arrow keys – the directions warn users "don't touch the mouse!" - and can skip between the original works and the finished document.
Superficially, it resembles the web itself, and that's no coincidence. At one point, Xanadu had potential to beat Tim Berners Lee to the invention of the world wide web. But the project carried on slipping, and the web got there first.
"The web trivialized this original Xanadu model," Nelson argued in 2004, "vastly but incorrectly simplifying these problems to a world of fragile ever-breaking one-way links, with no recognition of change or copyright, and no support for multiple versions or principled re-use."
Having missed the chance to be the web, Nelson now sees Xanadu as a potential replacement for formats that spend too much time trying to be like paper, and not enough time trying to be something new for the digital age.
"We screwed up in the 1980s, and missed our chance to be world wide hypertext (the web got that niche). However, we can still compete with PDF, which simulates paper, by showing text connections."
In 1995 - with the project already 35 years in development - Wired's Gary Wolf profiled Nelson, painting a portrait of a man whose execution never caught up with his ideas. But those ideas themselves went on to become hugely influential.
"Out of Nelson's discombobulation was born one of the most powerful designs of the 20th century," Wolf wrote. "And Xanadu's goals - a universal library, a global information index, and a computerised royalty system - were shared by many of the smartest programmers of the first hacker generation".

Overview
Traditionally, Mahjong (or alternatively, Mah-jongg) is a multiplayer game that is popular in East Asia. It is commonly played by four players, has 144 game pieces (tiles) and is sometimes involved in gambling. However, for the purposes of making a video game, the multiplayer game has been modified into Mahjong Solitaire, a game that is played by one player, which - despite using the exact same tiles as the original version - has completely different rules. The objective of Mahjong Solitaire is to remove all tiles from the board, according to specific rules. In fact, this Solitaire game became so popular that it is often associated with the name “Mahjong” instead of the original Chinese version, especially in the West. In the East, the game is known under different names, such as “Shanghai” in Japan.
Rules
The objective of the game is to disassemble a pile of game pieces (tiles). There are 144 tiles, which can be removed in pairs. In order to remove a pair of tiles, a number of conditions have to be met. First of all, the tiles need to belong to the same category. In most cases, this means that the tiles need to have the same picture on them, but there are a few exceptions to this. Also, the tiles cannot be blocked from the sides, and there cannot be other tiles on top of them. In other words, in order to remove a tile, you should be able to either slide it left or right without disturbing other tiles. If a tile has an adjacent tile located upwards or downwards from it, it still can be removed.
Each tile category contains 4 tiles, and there are 36 categories in total. These categories can be further divided into themes. The first three themes have 9 categories each. Tiles in these categories can be identified by a number and a theme. The first theme is chains or bamboo. The tiles in these categories can be identified by a number (from 2 to 9) of elongated shapes that is drawn on them. Instead of 1 chain (or bamboo), the illustration on the tile often depicts a bird. The second theme is barrels (or coins). These tiles can be identified by the number (from 1 to 9) of circle-shaped objects on them. The third theme is legions. These contain a Chinese number (from 1 to 9) and a Chinese character for a legion (as in a very large number of something). The fourth theme is winds, and contains four categories: East Wind, West Wind, North Wind, and South Wind, each of which is identified by an appropriate Chinese character describing the geographic direction. The fifth theme is dragons. Again, we have three categories: Red Dragon, Green Dragon, and White Dragon. So far, all of the mentioned categories consist of four identical tiles. But here is where things start to change: the remaining two categories sometimes have different pictures on the tiles, thus complicating the task of finding matching pairs. The remaining two categories (which can be bundled together under the theme of nature) are seasons and plants. Naturally, the seasons include Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Plants, on the other hand, include Plum, Orchid, Chrysanthemum, and Bamboo.
It is important to remove tiles in such an order as to not get stuck. Whenever you have four tiles that belong to the same category available for removal, you can safely remove them in any order. However, if you have only two or three tiles currently available for removal, then you need to be careful - because if you remove the wrong two, you can get easily stuck. One example is a situation in which there are two tiles belonging to the same category stacked on top of each other. If you remove the other two tiles from this category, then you will get stuck, because there is no way to remove the remaining two, as the bottom one is being blocked by the top one. In order to avoid this situation, try and pay attention to where are all of the tiles belonging to a certain category are. Another piece of advice is to remove the tiles that unlock other tiles first – this way, you will have more available options and you can reduce your chances of getting stuck.
Fortunately, the game has a lot of features that will help you, even if you make a mistake. First of all, there is an option that you can use to undo your last move if you make a mistake. There is also a hint which indicates the pairs of tiles available for removal. The number of moves (that is, the pairs currently available for removal) is shown in the status bar at the top of the screen. When this number drops down to zero, this means that you have either won the game by removing all tiles, or you have lost and there are no more pairs available for removal. In this latter case, you can shuffle the board and rearrange the tiles randomly. Finally, there is also an option to rotate the board. Now you will see the tiles from a different angle. This does not affect the gameplay, only the visual aspect of the game.
The game also features a lot of customizable options. Advanced players can disable the above-mentioned undo, hint, and shuffle features if they like. The number of moves available that is shown by default in the status bar at the top of the screen can be hidden. The same can also be done to the tile names that are displayed nearby. Also, by default, hovering the mouse over a tile that is not blocked will highlight it. This can be turned off, though, if the player wishes. There is also an option to turn the sound off/on.
There are multiple options pertaining to the game’s visual settings. First, the player has a choice of four backgrounds, including blue, green, purple carpet-like backgrounds, and a solid light gray one. The tiles come in five varieties: Beige, Cedar, Gold, Pale, and White. Out of these five options, the first four allow for various tail-side colors, namely blue, green, and red. White tiles are entirely white, and their tail-sides cannot be changed. Finally, player can also select one of the four set of pictures (glyphs) to be displayed on top of the tiles. The default glyphs have the highest contrast. Glyphs made by FluffyStuff are have a little bit of a tone to them. For someone who is interested in pale colors, there is also the Gentle glyph set. Contours glyphs are in plain black and white.
The traditional tile layout, sometimes also known as “The Turtle”, is just one of the many layouts that are available. This online Mahjong Solitaire has over sixty different layouts, with each one available in different difficulties. The easier it is to get stuck, the more difficult the game becomes. There are 11 basic difficulty levels. First, there is the traditional difficulty. Upon choosing this option, the player faces a pile of tiles that are randomly arranged. Depending on the layout, this can prove to be very easy or very hard to solve. The absolute difficulty of the traditional mode is indicated by the number from 1 to 10 in the “Select Layout” window. An important thing to note is that with traditional difficulty, games are sometimes unsolvable; that is to say, for some random arrangements of tiles, you will simply get stuck no matter what you do. Alternatively, you can choose one of the 10 solvable difficulty levels. In these difficulty levels, arrangements of tiles are proven to be solvable, and there exists some combination of moves which can result in the removal of all tiles. If you choose difficulty 1, you are the least likely to get stuck; whereas if you choose difficulty 10, it will be almost impossible not to get stuck. Because some layouts are inherently easier to solve, it is impossible to find difficult arrangements of tiles in them. Similarly, some layouts are inherently hard, and so it is not possible to find easy arrangements of tiles for them. In these such cases, certain difficulty levels are disabled.
You can always go back to a difficult tile arrangement that you previously failed to solve. All you need to do is remember its deal number. For a given layout and difficulty, the deal number tells you how tiles are arranged on the board.
There is no scoring system in this online Mahjong game. However, the game does keep track of how many games you have played, how many times you have won, and how much time you spent playing. These statistics are kept at the difficulty, layout, and global levels. The game also keeps track of how many layouts and which difficulties you have beaten and displays your overall progress. В ней 144 фишки (или кости), и в нее можно играть на деньги. Однако в видеоиграх чаще используется другой вариант игры, маджонг-пасьянс, предназначенный только для одного человека. В этой игре столько же фишек, сколько и в оригинальном варианте, но правила совершенно другие. Цель пасьянса маджонг – удалить все фишки с доски согласно определенным правилам. Этот вариант игры набрал такую популярность, что часто, особенно на Западе, именно его называют маджонгом, а не оригинальную китайскую версию. На Востоке он известен под разными названиями. Например, в Японии его называют «Шанхай».
Правила
Цель игры – разобрать горку игровых элементов (фишек) путем их удаления. Всего фишек 144, и убирать их можно по две. Чтобы убрать две фишки, должны соблюдаться несколько условий. Во-первых, фишки должны быть одного вида. В большинстве случаев это просто значит, что на них должна быть одна и та же картинка, хотя есть исключения. Во-вторых, фишка должна быть не заблокирована справа или слева. В-третьих, поверх нее не должно быть других фишек. Другими словами, такую фишку можно выдвинуть направо или налево, не задевая другие. При этом сверху или снизу могут прилегать другие фишки, это не считается блокировкой.
Существует 36 видов фишек, и всего есть 4 фишки каждого вида (то есть 36*4=144 фишек всего). Также существуют различные масти фишек. Первые три масти включают по 9 видов. Фишки этих видов имеют определенное число и тему. Первая масть называется бамбуки. На ее фишках есть числа (от 2 до 9) в виде продолговатых фигур, напоминающих бамбук. Но на единице бамбуков часто изображена птица. Вторая масть – доты, на них нанесены круги в количестве от 1 до 9. Третья масть – символы, на них нанесены китайские цифры от 1 до 9, а также иероглиф, обозначающий «тьму», или очень большое число. Далее следуют масти, где фишек меньше. Это ветра (четвертая масть), в ней 4 вида фишек: восточный ветер, западный ветер, северный ветер и южный ветер. У каждого есть соответствующий китайский иероглиф, обозначающий сторону света. Пятая масть – драконы, и здесь всего три вида фишек: красный дракон, зеленый дракон и белый дракон. Все вышеупомянутые масти имеют по четыре совершенно одинаковых фишек, но теперь начинаются исключения. Две оставшиеся масти могут иметь разные фишки, что усложняет задачу их нахождения. Их иногда объединяют, поскольку обе относятся к природе. Это времена года и растения. К первым относятся весна, лето, осень и зима. Растения включают в себя сливу, орхидею, хризантему и бамбук.
Фишки нужно удалять в правильном порядке, чтобы не попасть в тупик, который означает проигрыш. Если вы увидели четыре фишки одного типа, можно их смело убирать. Но если вы видите только две или три, будьте осторожны: если убрать не ту пару, можно застрять. Для примера возьмем ситуацию: одна фишка лежит поверх другой такой же. Ряд настроек отвечают за визуальную составляющую игрового процесса. Во-первых, можно выбрать один из четырех фонов для игры: синий, зеленый, фиолетовый и светло-серый. Есть пять фонов для самих фишек: бежевый, светло-бежевый, кедровый, золотой и белый. Первые четыре фона позволяют окрасить «рубашку» (тыльную часть) фишек в синий, зеленый или красный цвет. Чисто белые фишки будут белыми со всех сторон, поэтому их рубашку изменить нельзя. Наконец, можно поменять стиль отрисовки фигур на самих фишках. Наиболее контрастные – стандартные фигуры. Есть фигуры от дизайнера FluffyStuff, они более красочные. Если вам нравятся пастельные тона, выбирайте стиль «Изящный». Контурные фигуры строго черно-белые.
Традиционный расклад фишек, который еще называют «Черепаха», лишь один из многих существующих раскладов. В данном онлайн-пасьянсе маджонг представлено свыше 60 раскладов, каждый из которых имеет еще и несколько уровней сложности. Чем проще застрять, тем сложнее игра. Существует 11 базовых уровней сложности. На «традиционном» уровне фишки распределяются случайным образом, что может быть очень просто или очень сложно в зависимости от расклада. В окне выбора расклада есть индикатор сложности для традиционного режима от 1 до 10. Важно отметить, что на традиционном уровне сложности игра может быть непроходима в принципе. Другими словами, при определенном раскладе вы застрянете со 100-процентной вероятностью. Но есть 10 проходимых уровней сложности, на которых используются только гарантированно решаемые раздачи. На сложности 1 вероятность застрять минимальна, на сложности 10 эта вероятность стремится к 100%. Еще есть такие расклады, для которых в принципе невозможны сложные конфигурации фишек, а есть такие, где ситуация ровно обратная. Поэтому на таких раскладах соответствующие уровни сложности недоступны для выбора.
Если вам не удалось пройти какой-то расклад, его можно разложить заново – для этого достаточно просто запомнить его номер раздачи. Этот номер содержит в себе всю информацию о расположении всех фишек на игровом столе для данного расклада и уровня сложности.
В данной онлайн-версии маджонга нет системы подсчета очков. Однако игра учитывает, сколько игр вы сыграли, сколько раз выиграли и сколько времени затратили на игру. Эта статистика хранится для уровня сложности, расклада и глобально. Игра также подсчитывает, сколько раскладов и уровней сложности вы прошли, и отображает общий прогресс.
