Pernille Kienle (asker) Jan 28, 2014:
US audience Thanks Charles! Is there perhaps a different twist to 'mortgage tax' (such as 'tax mortgage' or something as it 'afgiftspantebrev' - I agree that it's needed for a US audience. (not sure whom your last comment re deletion is directed at?) Thanks! Perni :)

stamp duty mortgage

Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Ek : This British/Australian term is probably acceptable, Pernille, if your audience is familiar with duties generally. If it's a strictly American audience, it might need some explication.

(AE& BE) expenses-only 'redutiable' mortgage

Covers not only the stanp duty.
Example sentence:

Der betales yderligere afgift, hvis der efter de almindelige regler skal betales tinglysningsafgift, f.eks. af en difference mellem det nye låns hovedstol og ejerpantebrevets hovedstol.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Charles Ek : Can't go along with the AE reference. No one in this country has heard about "dutiable mortgages" unless they've bought property overseas or had to translate foreign real estate documents. It's referred to here as a "mortgage tax", not a duty. What rest?

You haven't considered the rest of my translation.//Oh, excuse me. Yes, you have - approvingly - in your deleted comment.//The rest = the other words either side of redutiable.
