So far I have polizze di carico as bills of lading...so what is the stato dei fatti? some kind of report, receipt, quality certification? also occurs in the following two places:

"Come riportato nello Stato dei Fatti, il seguente 6 aprile 2010 all’apertura delle stive 1 e 7 la superficie del carico di farina di estrazione di girasole in pellets ivi stivato veniva riscontrata gravemente danneggiata"

"Il prodotto veniva evidentemente consegnato integro dato che i ricevitori firmavano il relativo

then it should be "Statement of Facts".

At the end of the stay in port, the port agent draws up a Statement of Facts, setting out a log of events during the ship's stay in port. The Statement of Facts enables a time sheet to be drawn up and signed by the master and the shipper or receiver of the cargo. The time sheet enables laytime and therefore demurrage or despatch to be calculated.

Statement of Facts (SOF)


Explanation:
Basically an important document aligned with the original Bill of Lading and Mates Receipts. Since there may be a claim for damaged cargo it is necessary to ascertain where damage was discovered (did the Master notate the Bill of Lading thus making it a claused or soiled Bill? Or was it a clean Bill? (which Master accepted). did the Master get to inspect cargo or was he able to check for damage? So, there are lots of ifs and buts in maritime law so a SOF is important if vessel will be delayed in port.
