Hi everyone,
A client has requested me to give him a quote to translate a manual (around 100 pages). The problem is that the whole manual was scanned as images. Is there a way to convert the images to Word in order to make a word count? In your experience, what is the best way to do this? I will appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance.

The only way to do it - OCR (Optical Character Recognition) with any ocr software. E.g. ABBYY FineReader. Anyway, you need to convert it into word if you want to use a CAT.

Another possible option Mar 26, 2013

You may want to give Wordfast Anywhere a try:

www.freetm.com

Open an account, go to File and Upload Document File.

Once it's been uploaded, click on Download Document File.

I've had pretty good luck with it.

Another option is

http://www.onlineocr.net/

It's a good, basic on-line OCR service.

Another excellent option is the following:

http://www.freepdftoword.org/es/

Although it is more complicated, sometimes it has been the only tool that would get the job done.

The above options all convert the pdf to a Word doc, but if all you need is a word count, Wordfast Wordcount will do it for you. The following URL gives the instructions:

We have in average the same question at least once a week Mar 26, 2013

Wouldn't it be better to search in the forum before asking once again?
