Hello! Welcome to my profile. My name is Erick Pires. I am a freelance translator specializing in translating from English and Russian to Brazilian Portuguese. I have always had a passion for studying foreign languages, which led me to pursue a degree in Languages (Portuguese and Russian) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

During college, I deepened my knowledge of Portuguese, honed my writing skills, and studied Russian. I also gained experience teaching beginner Russian in an extension program offered by the college, and translating Russian short stories and cartoons.

After completing my undergraduate degree in 2015, I pursued a Master's in Linguistics at UFRJ, focusing on Construction Grammar, which allowed me to learn about the mechanisms and functioning of languages from a scientific perspective. During this period, I was also able to improve my reading skills in English. I then worked as an Adjunct Professor at UFRJ, teaching Russian until mid-2019.

It was this enduring interest in languages that led me to become a professional translator in 2019. To enhance my skills, I completed four translation courses offered by Brasillis School, focusing on games, comics, subtitles (movies, TV shows, etc.), and learning how to use the SDL Trados software. And now I have 5 years of experience, having translated over 600,000 words and revised 300,000 words, both from English and Russian into Brazilian Portuguese.

Professional experience as a translator (May 2024):

With over 600,000 translated words and 300,000 proofread words from both English and Russian to Brazilian Portuguese, I specialize in texts primarily related to video games, including mobile games (adventure, hidden objects, puzzle, logic), console/PC games (online sports game) and casino games (cards, slots). I also have experience with app localization (food delivery, ride-sharing, children's games, educational courses) and websites (CPA marketing (affiliate network platform), educational platforms and courses, sports betting). Finally, I have performed translation and proofreading work in various other fields, such as technical manuals and equipment, interviews, IT websites, software, among others.

Personal interests and areas of expertise:

• Videogame localization: Always passionate about videogames, I am well-versed in the vocabulary and mechanics of various genres, such as shooter, RPG, adventure, strategy, among others. As a translator, I have experience with adventure games, hidden objects, puzzle, sports, and casual mobile games.
