Norwegian term

boligaksjeselskap

Norwegian to English Bus/Financial Real Estate
Explanation:
Since 1960 it has been obligatory to establish "borettslag" instead of "boligaksjeselskap". However, there are still many "boligaksjeselskap" that were established before 1960. They are governed by different laws: for "borettslag" it's borettslagsloven and for "boligaksjeselskap" it's aksjeloven.

LLC Thanks Sven. I have and was unaware of the US hybrid corporate-partnership form of a limited liability co. In the UK, this might be more akin to an LLP - a limited liability partnership. PS The hit musical about the record US corporate bankruptcy of ENRON was written by an English playwright who referred to a company with shares, rather than a corporation with stocks.

For a BrE or AmE readership? 2 of the answers use the AmE term stock which, in BrE, is a consolidated chunk of shares. Joint-stock companies went out of the UK a long time ago, but is still going strong in translat(or)ese.

housing stock company

Owned dwelling covers dwelling owned by freeholder, and dwelling owned through housing cooperative and through housing stock company.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Adrian MM. (X) : I can't see how the term 'parses' - a company holding housing stock or a housing co. limited by (AmE) stock = (BrE) shares.

housing cooperative stock corporation

Yes, it's windy, but it's what used in the translation of husleieloven. See § 13-2 of the act in the links below. In the Norwegian version, the reference appears as a stand-alone sentence. In the English version, it's labelled as subsection (f). The translation also appears at http://www.huseierne.no/Utleie-/Viktige-engelske-ord-og-uttr...

incorporated housing cooperative

Actually, I would simply call it a "housing cooperative," as these take many forms and their form isn't usually identified in their title.
I suppose it would be possible to write "housing cooperative (LTD)" - or housing cooperative (LLC).
