Arabic term

المسنين جدا

Arabic to English Other Medical: Cardiology
ارتفاع الضغط الشرياني لدى المسنين جدا

As I said, this is an Arabic text translated from French text. There should have been something in the original text referring to "too/so old". I was thinking of "aged" alone. Any other suggestions?

You're right, according to dictionary.com the adjective senile could mean "Relating to or exhibiting memory loss or mental impairment associated with aging"
Non-ProZ.com Jul 26, 2005:
ok, if I went for "senile" how would it be in English? I mean this is addressing aged people, and senile stands for as well as . Doesn't sound offensive!
neuneutek Jul 26, 2005:
The term vieux in French means Old while snile means very old or senile. You are aboslutely right. :) There is a French term. Good luck, AMT.

the elderly, senior citizens

As far as I know, we don't have a "very old" category in English. The most polite way of referring to old people is to call them the "elderly". All people of 65+ are clumped into the same bracket - old age and there is no differentiation as such between them being 103 or 77.
