Dutch term

speelt een eersterangsrol in de buitenhuisconsumptie

Dutch to English Other Other
I assume this should be buitenShuisconsumptie, unless those mad Welsh nationalists have taken to eating country cottages instead of burning them down ;-)) In this context it refers to eating in a non-domestic setting, but not dining out in restaurants i.e. meals in staff canteens, hospitals, schools, etc. Stumped for a way to phrase it naturally so would welcome any suggestions.

plays a key/leading/major role in the catering industry

Vb:
plays a key/leading/major role in the catering industry

eventueel met non-domestic er nog bij
Peer comment(s):

agree writeaway : agree with Tina. there are other ways to say it (more concise) but this is definitely closest here. forget about non-domestic. completely wrong in the context.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Some good ideas to get the old brain in gear. Thanks, everyone! Apologies if some thought the query too long - my failure to find a good solution for buitenhuisconsumptie was getting in the way of the whole phrase!"

meals eaten away from home

Meals/food eaten away from home, although this could incl. restaurants, etc.:

"Around an eighth of energy, fat, and saturated fat in the diet is from the food eaten away from home. Workplace caterers may prepare a significantproportion of meals for regular customers and so have an important influence on the overall diet, etc."

So they're taking a lead / are the leaders in their field in catering /producing meals/food to be consumed/eaten away from home.

is top of the bill in non-domestic catering

with thanks to http://www.proz.com/kudoz/787271 for supporting my hunch

BTW I wouldn't focus on the consumption of food but rather on the supply

Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : top of the bill is very theatrical terminology. this is meal time, not show time ;-)

well then, top of the menu; I was more concerned with the 2nd part (that's what you get from asking too much in one KudoZ question)

is the leading provider of canteen meals

Target term is hopefully self-explanatory but ProZ wouldn't let me Send without an explanation!

Just read the voedingsautomaten bit, so you could say 'of food for businesses, schools and institutions.'
