In your first example, I would use "iglesia local" or "congregación local" because "cuerpo local" sounds strange in Spanish. But in your second context, "cuerpo de creyentes" works perfectly well. It´s a phrase I hear and use regularly.

En el primer caso, se refiere a la iglesia o comunidad local. En el segundo, yo utilizaría comunidad creyente, término que se usa mucho hoy en día reforzando el sentir comunitario de la Iglesia.
