: Definitely. An internal medicine specialist could apply to a professor of internal medicine who is not, however, an MD. Those do exist!

: However, an internist is not necessary the same thing as an hospitalist. See www.hospitalist.net and http://www.acponline.org/counseling/hosps.htm. I suspect "internista" is an anglicism...

Creo que se refiere a la especialidad (medicina interna) y entonces lo traduciría así. Si buscás "internista" en Google lo primero que vas a encontrar es una página oficial con los exámenes que tenés que dar para ser especialista.

ADMITTING OFFICER
Coordinates activities related to admission of patients in hospital or other medical facility: Confers with physicians, and nursing, housekeeping, transport, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule admission of patient. Assigns accommodations based on physician's admittance orders, patient's preference, nature of illness, availability of space, and other information, and enters bed assignment information into computer. Prepares records of admission, transfer, and other required data. Notifies departments of patient's admission. Reviews clerical work of interviewers and other personnel. Keeps records of admissions and discharges, and compiles occupancy-census data.
