Portuguese term

MAQUETE

Portuguese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama script
Um arquiteto COM UMA MAQUETE NA MÃO fala: "Vamos trabalhar".

I thought that the phrase "holding a model" would sound ambiguous. Any ideas?

Discussion

Muriel Vasconcellos Apr 20, 2006:
Is this a building, or a sculpture? "Mock-up" appears to be more common for the former, "maquette" for the latter.

Thanks, Antonio! Of course, I didn't check all the references, but the term has only one meaning as far as I know. A better definition comes from Webster III: "a structural model built to scale."
agree Kemper Combs : Don't worry about what Antonio says. I've always used "mock-up", and when I saw the word, I thought to myself: I would translate it as "mock-up", so when I saw your answer, I had to agree with it.
