elimination of a post/position (dar vezi nota)

... desi n-as traduce exact asa in cazul acesta, altfel mie mi-ar suna cam fortat. Ca sa sune cat mai firesc in limba engleza, eu as folosi un verb in loc de un substantiv:

"...after vacant positions... have been eliminated."

Cred ca se zice "eliminated/elimination" destul de des in legatura cu posturi, si as folosi "post/position" pentru ca se exprima asa in majoritatea contractelor de munca pe care eu le-am vazut.

de ex.

"The 2002-03 budget provided for the elimination throughout state government of 6,000 vacant positions in the current year...

...For example, the administration reports that over 6,500 vacant positions were eliminated in 2000-01 and 2001-02."
http://www.lao.ca.gov/analysis_2003/general_govt/gen_4_cc_va...

"812 vacant positions were eliminated. A DeCA official stated that
vacant positions existed because stores had historically been funded at only 90 percent of their required staffing. The elimination of these positions resulted in no personnel losses and produced no savings."
http://www.gao.gov/htext/d03417.html

"As part of the restructuring, forty engineering, supervisory, middle, and senior management positions were eliminated."

Am gasit si un contract unde se zice:

"Section 3. Procedure.
In the event of subcontracting or layoff the Employer shall identify the *positions being eliminated*, including the classifications, location, shift and percentage appointment [...]

*Employee(s) whose position(s) has been eliminated* shall receive notice as soon as the need for layoff is known, but at least thirty (30) days prior to the effective date of the layoff, unless the layoff is necessary due to an emergency beyond the Employer's control."

"Eliminated" e folosit des in legatura cu posturi *vacante*, scuze.

Multumesc, Nicolae!
agree Elizabeth Rudin : 'Position' would be preferable to 'post'. A position/job can also be 'terminated'.

Thanks - yes, I do prefer position myself, actually. I was under the impression they could only be terminated when filled

agree Bogdan Honciuc : Dar parcă mai populară ar fi sintagma "job termination".

Multumesc, Elvira. Si eu.
agree Peter Shortall : In another context, certainly (e.g. media/colloquial), but I don't think it's formal enough for a contract

Thanks, Peter. It's widely used in American English, (corporate contexts too). I'd say the paragraph sounds more like a policy/proceidure thingy, rather than a contract. "eliminate" is an OK option, anyway. Have a lucky Tuesday!
