Spanish term

supuesto

Spanish to English Other Geography Climatology
This is a text on climate hazards in Spain. It is referring to a new EU directive regarding prevention of environmental damage. I am unsure of the meaning of "supuesto" here.

This is Spanish from Spain to be translated into UK English.

Many thanks in advance,
Becky.

Rebecca Hendry (asker) Jul 1, 2006:
The term appears again in the following paragraph:

Me parece.

agree Stuart Allsop : Yep! Sounds like exactly what they were trying to say. "...does not subscribe to any specific hypothesis..." and "... enlarging on the hypothesis of environmental harm..."

[direct] supposition

It basically means the same thing as 'assumption', but 'direct supposition' is used in a specific sense in logic, and I think that's what's meant here.
