English term

to go 0-for-10

Non-PRO English to Croatian Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
The term comes from a book I'm translating, and I think it's used metaphorically. It refers to a wealthy man who was prepared to work on voluntary basis, but "he went 0-for-10 in his search"and nobody seemed to be much thrilled by his philantropy.

Discussion

Will Matter Sep 18, 2006:
It means that he failed completely (in his search for voluntary work). He tried 10 times (to find voluntary work) and succeeded 0 times. 10 tries, no success at all. HTH.
