Beside "till" of course. And we don't really
say "unto" here in the U.S. Is there
anything else?
The sentence is "he cried until morning",
except that I need the word "until" again, or its
synonym, later in the same sentence.

Selected
he cried through to morning; he cried through the night; morning found him yet in tears
I am assuming that you can modify the entire phrase...
...through the night to the morning he cried....
... through the long night he cried and morning's rays found him yet in tears
...through the night to the morning he cried....
... through the long night he cried and morning's rays found him yet in tears

: He cried all night and was still crying in the morning. Although I suppose the implication of until is that he stopped crying in the morning...

Comment: "Thanks to everyone. Good answers all. Since the "he" in my sentence is a college kid sitting around with his buddies, drinking Budweiser and smoking cigarettes, I'll use "through to morning". But if I ever find myself
translating a romance novel, I'll be sure to use "morning found him yet in tears" !! Thank you very much, Silviantonia, and everyone who voted
for her answer.

into the wee hours of the morning
He cried into the wee hours of the morning...
How does that sound?
How does that sound?
Note from asker:
Sophia, just wanted to say that I seriously considered your answer too (sans "wee hours"). |

need a synonym for
he cried (all the way) up to the morning.
Just an alternative.
Note from asker:
Thanks as always, Erich. I went with a different phrasing, but "up to" sounds just fine to my ear. |

Armorel Young
: I don't think it is an alternative - "all the way up to" is an expression of place, not time - e.g. "he walked all the way up to the monument".

This sentence was created in Sep 2006: http://tinyurl.com/yykvud: I wrote all the way up to the morning of Christmas Eve, and then I stopped... Then, place or time is OK w/ "all the way up to" Thanks anyway.

say so.
