"Let wiser heads prevail" という表現と、そのバリエーションはよく使われますが、特に定訳としてはないかもしれません。"wiser head" = intellect という意味です。賢い人、知性のある人、高尚な人、などでしょうか。

ここでは、法廷で争われる前に、裁判官の勧告に従い、賢い判断が優先され、和解ないし調停に至ったということを指しているのではないでしょうか。他にも適切な訳をされる方があると思いますが、意味は間違っていないと思います。

agree Kurt Hammond : sounds good. The gist here is that the fighting sides desided to avoid letting their ego get in the way, accepted that there was some merit to the arguments raised by both sides, and decided to agree to a fair compromise (instead of being stubborn).

良識を取り戻す

In my opinion report, the final tally of financial liability was about a 50/50 split between plaintiff and defendant. Still, each side chose to go to court. I was called to testify, but while sitting in the courtroom hall with case file materials in-hand, my attorney-client came out during a recess and sent me home.
