Painting
In a text on Flemish art. It occurs several times in descriptions of paintings, e.g.
Dictionaries have been of surprisingly little help - I've only managed to get a vague idea of the meaning from Internet examples (something to do with the way things are "drawn/traced"?) so I'd be grateful to anyone who can put me in the picture :) I've even found one site that describes it as "limbaj de lemn"...

: ductus = The general shape of manuscript letters.

Outline
As far as I can imagine from the context it must be outline/sketch/draft/plan when related to paintings, but I guess you'd better wait for some other opinions.

ductus
Not such a far cry from Romanian - or the other way around :) It's the overall pattern of brush strokes, see:
By developing a ductus (the way one actually wields the brush) one can bring many structures into play and enhance the artistic expression of the painting
http://www.martinahoffmann.com/workshops/previous_workshops/...
And, the most revealing definition, etymology-wise:
flow [art.] der Duktus - Linienführung
