Mira la acepción "e" de la definición en el Dicionario Oxford. Si tiene que ver con España, la traducción de todo sería sencillamente "autonomous government' porque es el gobierno regional.

No sé la respuesta; sin embargo, me parece que podría ser porque al usar "junta" se da cuenta que es el gobierno regional, mientras el uso de "reunión del gobierno" o "reunión del gobierno autónomo" se podría confundir con el gobierno nacional.

'Autonomous' government sounds very strange to English language readers. See BBC story below.
The understandable term is 'regional' but for nationalistic reasons this name was not adopted in Spain. However, that is not a reason to exclude it in translated text.

'Gobierno autonómico' suena muy extraño a los lectores de inglés. Vea el articulo de la BBC abajo.
El termino más facil de entender es 'regional' pero por razones nacionalistas este término no es utilizado dentro de España. Pero, este no es razon para no usarla en textos traducidos.
The understandable term is 'regional' but for nationalistic reasons this name was not adopted in Spain. However, that is not a reason to exclude it in translated text.
