German term
Namensreferent
German to English
Other
Government / Politics
The sentence reads:
"Sollte noch keine Meldung über Beginn bzw. Ende von Mitversicherungen an uns erfolgt sein, ersuchen wir Sie um Nachmeldung an den jeweils zuständigen Namensreferenten bis längstens 19.04.2004"
This is our understanding of the situation: there's one person responsible for employees whose last name begins with A, B, C, D, E, or F (A to F), another person is responsible for the letters G to L, another for M to Q, etc.
What would the term for Namensreferent be in the UK or the US? Perhaps you have ideas you can substantiate? Thanks for your help!

Trying to use the US expression "desk" for what would be the "zuständiger Sachbearbeiter" or even old-time "Schalter" in Germany. A native speaker probably knows whether or not this fits.

: logically, it fits, but it doesn't sound right to me because it's an object (desk) not a person. They're supposed to reply to a specific contact person by a certain date.

designated contact person

I think "designated" or "assigned" gets the point across that it's a specific person, and has been pre-determined. I assume there is other information provided elsewhere that describes which contact person is designated, and it would be obvious thereby that the assignment is based on the initial of the last name?
Example sentence:
reply to the designated contact person

: How would "clerk" instead of "person" sound? Or perhaps not p.c.? Regards.

Discussion
Government for us is not only politics but also state administration etc. (as in eGovernment, which involves precisely what we are talking about here, albeit in electronic form).
We are talking about statutory insurance here. It is typical of government authorities to have persons responsible for different letters in the alphabet to boot.
