Spanish term

principio

Spanish to English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
I'm not sure about the above term. It appears as a heading in a document describing a lab procedure. The section describes the machines used in the procedure as well as defines some terms. The other sections are "objetivo y campo de trabajo" "material y reactivos" "expresion de resultados"... Does it mean basis or something like that?
Any ideas? Thanks.

Discussion

Karen Tkaczyk Feb 25, 2008:
Title, Aim, Apparatus, Materials, Method, Results, Conclusions would be normal headings for scientific method. Principio would be the second of those. 'Purpose' might be a better translation though.

more context needed on this one :)

neutral Shawn Keeney : That's usually covered in the introduction or background section of the lab.
