Well, St. Augustine was definitely a playboy before his conversion, and he too came from Africa (Thagaste, in mod. Algeria).

who liked a laugh
There may be some confusion here.
The Catholic Online saints database gives three St Zenos, the most famous being the bishop of Verona (number 3 below).
It was St Zeno of Nicomedia who laughed out of turn, though. The better known Zeno of Verona seems to have been a more serious type and a fine orator, although he was also a keen fisherman.
1 : St. Zeno
St. Zeno
d. 303
Feastday December 22
Zeno (d. 303) + Martyred soldier at Nicomedia (modern Turkey). He was seized and condemned to death for laughing while Emperor Diocletian (r. 284-305) offered a sacrifice to the Roman god Ceres. Zeno had his jaws shaffered and was then beheaded. Feast day: December 22.
2 : St. Zeno
St. Zeno
d. 400
Feastday December 26
Zeno (d.c. 400) + Bishop of Gaza, Israel. He was a cousin to the martyrs Eusebius, Nestabus, and Zeno (f.d. September 8) and managed to survive the persecutions of the Church under Emperor Julian theArostate (r. 361-363) to become a bishop Feast Day: December 26.
3 : St. Zeno
St. Zeno
d. 371
Feastday April 12
Zeno (d. 371) + Bishop of Verona, Italy, theological writer. A native of Africa, he was named bishop in 362 and proved an ardent opponent of Arianism. He also promoted discipline among the clergy and in liturgical life, built a cathedral, and founded a convent. Zeno wrote extensively on the virgin birth of Christ.
