Discussion

Henry Hinds Aug 7, 2008:
But a thermocouple is not a thermometer.
Henry Hinds Aug 7, 2008:
Right, I just copied what I put in another question and forgot to change it.
psicutrinius Aug 7, 2008:
Henry, a thermocouple is a thermometer, not a flowmeter?
Henry Hinds Aug 7, 2008:
Todo lo que hay que poner es el término consultado, o sea en este caso

Medidor de caudal

Sin más.
psicutrinius Aug 7, 2008:
I said spanglis, not nonexistent. You look for "propela" and you will probably find that, too,as a "translation" for "propeller"
psicutrinius Aug 7, 2008:
In Spanish, couple translates as "par", therefore, a thermocouple is a "termopar". "Cupla" for "couple" sounds as downright spanglish, and I am afraid you will not find the word in any dictionary

thermocouples

I assume that this is maybe Spanish, but I would guess that is stands for thermocouples, temperature sensing elements.

a device that consists of the junction of two dissimilar metallic conductors, as copper and iron, in which an electromotive force is induced when the conductors are maintained at different temperatures, the force being related to the temperature difference: used to determine the temperature of a third substance by connecting it to the junction of the metals and measuring the electromotive force produced.

thermocouples

Is it Spanish for thermocouples? It doesn't look like an English word to me.

agree psicutrinius : You look for the Spanish translation of this very same Wiki, and what do you find as a title?. Termopar.

thanx.
agree margaret caulfield : This is normally called "termopares" in Spanish. I'd say "termocuplas" is a very bad adaptation from English.

thank you
agree Raúl Waldman : In Argentina the term 'termocupla' is very usual. It is probably adapted from French rather than English.

you remind us of something very important - there are several "dialects" within each language which contribute to make for different usages!
