the sentence in question might just as well be interpreted as >employee of the company was elected director to the Board>. If, however,the author wants to convey that the said director was elected by the staff, as Tatyana supposes, then there ought to be a dash between employee and elected. employee-elected. This not being the case, I assume that the director was elected from among the employees 0f the company.
