Je ne comprends pas vraiment la structure de cette phrase:

One way of calculating the true return on a bond is as the discount rate that equates the projected flows of cash received through a bond’s life to the price paid and the amount invested today.

Discount rate est plutot le taux d'escompte dans un contexte financier.

In finance, future cash flows are discounted compared to current day valuations because money is worth less in the future due to inflation and if you had that money now you could earn interest on it by that time in the future - so future income is always worth less than current income.

Dans le sens ici en anglais, "equates to" n'est pas un comparison mais une egalite - peut etre vous pourriez dire "le taux d'escompte qui fait correspondre les tresoreries et ....." - le sens du mot anglais "matches".
