Slovak term

odstavenie vozidiel

Slovak to English Other Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Does this mean "parking", or does it depend on the context?
- I'm asking because I think various meanings of "odstavenie" are possible.

Discussion

Michal Zugec Feb 10, 2009:
Dylan Edwards (asker) Feb 10, 2009:
Perhaps longer-term parking? Here's an example: "prevádzkovanie parkovísk služiacich na odstavenie viac ako 5 vozidiel, patriacich iným osobám než majiteľovi alebo nájomcovi nehnuteľnosti".
Slavomir BELIS Feb 10, 2009:
If the term is used correctly, it means "vyradiť z prevádzky". See "odstaviť" in KSSJ - 2. vyradiť (z prevádzky): o. stroj, auto;
Michal Zugec Feb 10, 2009:
Context Dylen, it depends on context - also parking, but also "odstavenie" from operation, from trafic, etc.

short and/or long-term parking

based on your clarification and my explanation (Decree 311/1996 Coll.) this one seems to fit your need (vehicle can be "odstavené" also for short-term purposes, like waiting for custom clearance, et.)

agree Alca Ryskova : yes, read the example only now

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you for your explanation and ref. to the decree. The word 'parking' on its own would be adequate in most cases, but it's good to have the reassurance that it can be either short- or long-term."
