English term

"pitched and unpitched sounds"

English to Italian Other Music acoustics
context:
"listen to...the multi-layered textures of pitched and unpitched sounds"

this comes from a description of a performance which involves a few musicians playing their instruments while some steel workers hammer and weld a steel frame onstage.
I understand what it means: the pitched sounds are the ones produces by the instruments, while the unpitched ones are the sounds of the workers.
however I can't seem to find a suitable way of saying it in Italian.

In other contexts pitch could translate as "altezza" or as "nota", but here these don't seem to fit, as what the text stresses is the different between the "music" of the instruments, that produce notes, i.e. sounds with a harmonic spectrum, and the "noise" of the workers which is, well, unpitched.

Anyone out there who knows a bit more about acoustics than I do?
