Dutch term

de band zoekt en dweilt

Non-PRO Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Tyres
Text relating to properties and behaviour of car tyres, unsure of the English terminology for "zoeken" and "dweilen" in this context. Thank you.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com (asker) Mar 26, 2009:
Clarification The sentence is:
"Het is een slappe band, de band zoekt, dweilt, helt over in de bocht en de chauffeur voelt detonatie."
Other than that I have no further context.
Anja Thys Mar 26, 2009:
i think some more context is needed

has no direction and is wandering

Maybe this could help a little bit
It's an unsturdy tire, it's wandering and meandering, it heels over in bends en the driver experiences detonation
It's a weak tire, it has no direction and is crawling, it heels over in bends en the driver feels detonation
It's an unset(?) tire, it's out of true and is searching its way, it heels over in bends en the driver feels knocking

loss of control, drift

Under inflation puts safety at risk

These results suggest that many motorists are unaware that a tyre loses pressure naturally over time, like a balloon, and that driving on incorrect pressure can be dangerous. The loss of handling control and increase in vehicle drift rises sharply as tyre pressure is reduced.

Even a small pressure loss can affect a car's handling, making it harder to control. Such a loss can also make
the ride softer and the car drift.
